CdTe quantum dots (QD) were synthesized in aqueous medium by employing thioglycolic acid as a stabilizer. The fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) between the CdTe QD and rhodamine B (RhB) in the presence of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) using the QD with an emission wavelength of 522 nm as an energy donor and rhodamine B as an acceptor was investigated. When the concentration of CTAB was 1.37×10－4 mol/L in the buffer (pH＝5.00), the results showed that the number of RhB molecules with every QD to undergo the energy transfer effectively was 6, the energy transfer efficiency (E) and the distance (r) between the QD and RhB was 0.69 and 2.65 nm, respectively.
