A fiber optic sensor for determination of methanol based on fluorescence enhancement of lipophilized fluorescein derivatives

Fluorescein octadecyl ester was synthesized. After immobilization in the plasticized PVC membrane and connection with a glass bifurcated fiber optic, a fiber optic sensor for the determination of MeOH was constructed. The described sensor has good reversibility. MeOH in water solution from 30% to 80% can be determine Besides a high reproducibility in the fluorescence signal, a response time <2 min was realized.
