A New Quasi Solid-state Method to Synthesize Cobalt-doped LiCo_xMn_ (2-x)O_4 Spinel Materials and Investigation on Their Electrochemical Performances

Cobalt-doped LiCo_xMn_(2-x)O_4 spinel material was synthesized by a new quasi solid-state method, in which xCo_2O_3·MnO_2 was prepared through co-precipitation from liquid phase. The structural and electrochemical properties of the material were studied by XRD and electrochemical measurements. Compared with traditional solid-state method, the new technique has the advantage of uniform size- distribution and better electrochemical performance. Through comparing the structure and electrochemical behavior of the cobalt-doped spinel materials that were prepared by different precursor, an optimal synthetic route has been chosen. The product obtained has desired electrochemical property. For example, LiCo_(0.016)Mn_(1.984)O_4 synthesized through an optimized route can yield 118 mA·h/g in its initial initial discharge and maintained at 113 mA·h/g after being cycled 25 times at room temperature. The cobalt-doped spinel samples prepared by the new technique also show good electrochemical performance at high temperatures.
