Detection of Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide (NADH) and Ethanol at ZnO Nanostructure Modified Electrode with Low Overpotential

The good catalytic activity of ZnO nanomaterial to the oxidation of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NADH) was described for biosensing application. Compared to a bare electrode, the modified electrode decreased the oxidation overpotential of NADH for 0.47 V, decreased the interferences and minimized the surface fouling. With alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) as a model, the proposed biosensor showed rapid and sensitive amperometric responses to ethanol with acceptable preparation reproducibility and stability. Nano-ZnO provided an efficient matrix for development of NADH biosensors and the prepared electrode can be used not only to detect the concentration of NADH in a biochemical reaction, but also used as the potential matrix for the construction of dehydrogenases.
