"Absolute" asymmetric synthesis in the solid state

The formation of enantiopure optically active biomolecules is an important chapter in the history of evolution. "Absolute" asymmetric synthesis, i. e. an asymmetric synthesis carried out in a closed system without any external chiral inducing agents or with circularly polarized light, supports the explanations of how optical activity could have arisen under pre-biotic conditions. In the present review, we describe the asymmetric synthesis via the reactions of chiral crystals of achiral molecules.
