Application of Hexamethylphosphoramide to Organic Synthesis

Abstract In this paper the application of hexamethylphosphoramide (HMPA) to organic synthesis has been reviewed on two aspects. Firstly, when HMPA is added to the reation system, it can affect the rate, re-gioselectivity and stereoselectivity of addition or substitution reactions as solvent or cosolvent. Secondly, it can also take part in many reactions, such as dimethylamination, synthesis of chiral catalysts and ligands, addition with carbonyl group, and complexation with metal ions.
