Nine di-β-chloroethyl α-hydroxyalkylphosphonates of the general type (ClCH2CH2O)2P(O)C(OH)R'R"(R'=H or alkyl group,R"=alkyl or aryl group) have been prepared by the reaction of di-β-chloroethyl phosphite with aromatic aldehydes,cinnamaldehyde & cyclohexanone in the presence of sodium methoxide.
