Investigations on the hydrolytic stability of polyphenyl-1,3,5- triazine in water at high temperature

Hydrolysis of polyphenyl-1,3,5-triazine and its model compound were conducted in water at 250℃/3。97MPa. The results showed that polyphenyl-1,3,5-triazine has outstanding heat and hydrolytic stability because no notable changes were observed on the IR spectra. The major hydrolysates from the polymer and model compound were aromatic carboxylic acids, which characterized by high performance liquid chromatography, high performance capillary electrophoresis, and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometer. Hydrolytic mechanisms were also suggested on the basis of the experimental observations. The high activation energy for the rate-dominative step predicted by the semiempirical quantum chemistry method, PM3, well expounded the excellent hydrolytic stability of polyphenyl-1,3,5-triazine.
