Electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS) was utilized to investigate the recognition of six cyclopeptides (cyclopentapeptides, cycloheptapeptides and cyclodecapeptide) in the regulatory region of HIV-1 gene. It was found that cyclic peptide CP5 had the higher binding affinity with the HIV-1 DNA, and ESI MS/MS data revealed that the CP5 stabilized the target duplex DNA.
