Spectral properties of silver-rutile composite microcrystals

Composite ultrafine a\particles of silver microcrystals supported on a microcrystalline TiO2(rutile) particle are synthesized by irradiating rutile colloid containing AgNO3 soluton with light of wavelength λ>330 nm. The surface plasa absorption of Ag microcrystals supported on the microcrystalline TiO2 particle shows broadened absorption at 400~600 nm. The silver microcystals loaded on the surface of microcrystalline rutile is confirmed by TEM. A strong surace-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) effect of the rutile microcrystal particles on which silver microcrys- tals are deposited is observed. The SERS could be attributed to “adsorption- resonance enhancement”.
