The binding of a dinuclear Ru(II) complex of [(bpy)2Ru(ebipcH2)Ru(bpy)2](ClO4)4, where bpy=2,2'-bipyridine and ebipcH2N-ethyl-4,7-bis(imidazolo[4,5-f]-(1,10-phenanthrolin)-2-yl)carbazole, to yeast-RNA has been investigated by UV-visible and emission spectroscopy titrations, steady-state emission quenching and reverse salt titration experiments. The results suggest that the binding of this complex to the RNA be intercalative with a binding constant of 9.1×105 L/mol at 50 mmol/L NaCl, which is much stronger than to the DNA at physiological saline concentration (≈150 mmol/L NaCl).

Key words: ruthenium(II) complex, yeast-RNA, intercalation
