A compound 2 corresponding to C;,-N fragment of maytansine has been spnthe-sized.Starting from 2-methogy-(i-nitroaniline(3),4-Chloro-3-methoxy-5-methyl-aminobenzaldehyde(11) was prepared through sig steps,the position of bromine in 4 heing proved by means of NMR.
