Inustcrol A,isolated previously by one of us (Chu) from the Chinese drug,fIsuan-h}u-IIwa,Inula chinesis,has beon proved to bo identical with taraxasterol by comparison of the physical constants of tho paront compound,its dorivatives (acetate,benzoato,p-nitrobonzoate),and its acid isomerization product and derivatwos (acetate and benzoate) with the cormsponding derivatives of tarwastcrol and of ψ-taraxasteral respectively,as well as by a direct melting point comparison of the acotate with an authentic sample of taraxasterol acetate.
