Analogs of tetracycline and anhydrotetracycline were expected to be synthesised by condensation of 1, 4-anthraquinonoid compounds with suitable dimes.Synthesis of 1, 4, 4a, 5, 12, 12a-hexahydro-6-hydroxy-ll-methyl-5, 12-diketonaphthacene(ⅩⅠ) by the action of 9, 10-dihydro-9-keto-l0-methyl anthraquinone-[1,4] with 1, 3-butadiene is reported.
