Pei-mu,a generic name for the corns of Fritillaria spp.,is one of the widely used botanical drugs in this country.The alkaloidal constituents of five of the so-called "Szechuan" varieties and one of the Manchurian variety (Fritillaria ussuriensis Maximowicx) have been examined.All of them yield alkaloids,which contain twenty-seven carbon atoms and probably belong to the group of modified steroidal alkaloids.
