Six water-soluble disulphonated thiacyanine dyes were synthesized and characterized by UV-vis、 ^1H NMR、IR spectra and elemental analysis. Results of UV-vis spectra indicated that the substitutents in the benzene ring have influence on their absorption maxima (λ~m~a~x) and molar extinction coefficients (ε~m~a~x) .
