Various chromatographic techniques were employed for isolation and purification of Periploca forrestii Schltr. Two new types of cardiac glycosides were obtained from this plant, and their structures were identified to be 5β-hydroxy-8,14β-epoxy-carden-20(22)-olide-3β-yl-D-cymaropynanoside (1) and 5β-hy-droxy-8,14-β-epoxy-carden-20(22)-olide-3β-yl-D-glucopynanosyl-(1→4)-β-D-cymaropynanoside (2) by spectral analysis of ¹H NMR, ¹³C NMR, 2D NMR and MS spectra.
