The condensation of ethyl n-propyl-acetoacetate with thiourea in presence of sodium ethylate in ethyl alcohol gave 2-thio-4-methyl-5-n-propyl-6-oxypyrimidine, m.p.210°, which was ethylated to give 2-ethylmercapto-4-methyl-5-n-propyl-6-oxypyrimidine, melting at 93°.
