The condensation of benzoylacetone, aldehyde and urea proceeded smoo:hly according to the course of Biginelli reaction, which was accelerated by hydrochloric acid. The various 2-keto-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-pyrimidines formed in this reaction should be represented by either of the following two formuhdons.
