Reaction of 3β-acetoxy-5α, 6α-oxido-6β-methyl 25-D-spirostan (Ⅲ) with p-tolucne sulphonic acid in benzene affords C6 methylene compound (Ⅳ) and by-products Ⅴ, Ⅵa, Ⅵb ﹠ Ⅶ. The structure of Ⅳ has been elucidated.
