The present paper deals with the separation of chloride, bromide, iodide, and thio-cyanate ions by the circular paper chromatographic method (Giri). Two series of eluents have been tested. One is the mixture of n-butanol, acetone, and ammonium hydroaide (3:13:4);the concentration of the latter can be 1.5, 3, 6, 9, 12 or 15 N. Good separation can be achieved with Hsin-Hua(新华)No.1 "Fast" filter paper and What-man No. 1 filter paper when the anions mentioned were chromatographed either singly or admixed. It has been found experimentally that the Rfc values of these anions were not greatly influenced by the basicity of the solvent as shown in Table 1 in the Chinese text. This solvent system is a modification of that used by Shoichi Nakano[2].
