The fruits of Brucea javanica (L) Merr, a common drug in Chinese traditional medicine, was used as an antidysenterie and antimalarial agent, recently it was used for the treatment of certain cancers. Five qnassinoids were isolated from the ethanol extract of the fruits. Four of them were identified as brusatol (1),dehydrobruceine B (3),bruceine D (2),bruceine E (4),respectively. The fifth one is a new compound which was named brucea,ketolic acid.
