Microbial aromatization of 19-hydroxymethyl- epidehydroandrosterone acetate by corynebacterium simplex

Microbial aromatization of 19-hydroxymethyl- epidehydroandrosterone acetate (4a) with Corynebacterium simplex afforded estrone (1) in ca. 60%, while using the free alcohol 4b as substrate, the yield of estrone was increased to 74%.
