An inductively coupled plasma (ICP) system used for the destruction of Freon wastes has been discussed and compared with the advanced foreign technology used for the destruction of hazardous wastes. The advantages of the ICP technology and its possibility to be developed into a practical environmental protection technology are also discussed. The exhaust gas from the ICP system is sampled and analyzed by GC-ECD method. Phosgene and trace amounts of CF~2Cl~2, CHCl~3, CH~2Cl~2, CCl~4 etc. are identified quantitatively. The total destruction efficiency of the ICP system for Freon 12 is calculated to be more than 99.9%.
