Reaction of Titanium Tetrabutoxide with Acetic Anhydride and Structure Analysis of the Titanyl Organic Compound Products

When the mixture of titanium tetrabutoxide [Ti(OC_4H_9)_4] and acetic anhydride [(CH_3CO)_2O] was heated in cyclohexane, two butoxyl groups (OC_4H_9) in Ti(OC_4H_9)_4 were replaced easily so as to form titanium dibutoxide diacetate [Ti (OC_4H_9)_2 (OOCCH_3)_2] and butyl acetate (CH_3COOC_4H_9). In plenty of (CH_3CO)_2O, Ti(OC_4H_9)_2 (OOCCH_3)_2 was transformed into two kinds of titanyl organic compounds with different structure, titanyl diacetate [ TiO (OOCCH_3 )_2 ] and titanyl dibutoxide tetraacetate [Ti_2O(OC_4H_9)_2(OOCCH_3)_4] that all contain Ti-O-Ti structure units. Titanium dibutoxide diacetate could be dissolved in organic solvent but titanyl organic compounds could not. Titanyl dibutoxide tetraacetate was decomposed more easily by heating than titanyl diacetate.
