Synthesis of Nitrogen-Containing Derivatives from α-Pinene and Their Nematicidal Activity against Pinewood Nematode

A series of imine and amine derivatives were synthesized from α-pinene by hydroboronation, oxidation, amination, and selective reduction. The nematicidal activities of 3-pinanimines and 3-pinanamines were examined by the bioassay. Furthermore, the chemical structures of synthesized imines and amines were characterized based on FT-IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR and GC-MS. The bioassay results showed that N-phenyl-3-pinanimine had the strongest nematicidal activity and it is very possible to commercialize because its nematicidal effects after 24, 48, and 72 h reached 89.28%, 89.58% and 95.75%, respectively when the level of N-phenyl-3-pinanimine was 1×10-3 µL/mL (about 1×10-3 mg/mL).
