Active nitrogen has been prepared by hollow-cathode discharge of high pure nitrogen in a flow reactor, and the emission spectra obtained in the reaction of active nitrogen with Br2 have been studied. The strong emission spectra of NBr(b1Σ→X3Σ) in the range of 540~800 nm have been observed when bromine is added to a stream of active nitrogen, and the spectra around 292 nm is ascribed to the transition of Br2(D'→A'). The results show that the excited state NBr(b1Σ) are found to exhibit vibrationally unrelaxed emissions (from up to ν'=9), and the electronically excited NBr(b1Σ) is formed directly by the reaction of excited nitrogen atom N(2P) with Br2.
