Fabrication and Photocatalyst Performance of a Novel Co3O4 Hierarchical Structures

Three-dimensional Co3O4 hierarchical structures were prepared by a combination of an electrospinning method and co-precipitation reaction and characterized by scanning electron microscopy and XRD. The photocatalytic decomposition of Methylene blue (MB) on Co3O4 sample was investigated at room temperature. The hierarchical structured Co3O4 sample shows an enhanced photocatalytic performance compared with the other nanostructured Co3O4 powders of nanoparticles, and nanofibers, which can be attributed to the special structural feature with an open and secondary Co3O4 nanowire that significantly facilitates the diffusion and mass transportation of MB molecules and oxygen species in photochemical reaction of MB degradation.
