The title complex [Cd(CH3OC6H3OHCH=NC2H4OH)2Cl2].(1/2)C2H5OH was synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses, IR as well as UV spectroscopy. Its structure was confirmed by single crystal X-ray diffraction. The complex crystal belongs to the monocline space group is Cc, with cell parameters: a=1.5475(3), b=1.1661(2), c=1.7295(3)nm, β=116.50(3)ⅲ, Z=4, final R=0.043 for 2261 unique reflections [I≥3σ (I)]. The structure was solved by direct method. The results indicate that each of the cadmium atoms was coordinated with four oxygen atoms (from two ligands respectively), and two chlorine anions to form a twisted octahedron. The complex has a high SHG efficiency.
