THE CRYSTAL STRUCTURE OF ASULAM

The herbicide, Asulam, crystallizes in the space group P21/α with unit cell constants α=7.465(2), b=17.873(5), c=8.081(2)Å; β-98.11(2)"; Z-4; dc=1.43g/cm3, The structure has been solved by SHELXTL program of direct methods. Asulam shows a nonplanar amide group with a distortion of 5.04. The C-N bond length of 1.378Å in the amide groups is greater than those in the normal amide groups. Very weak hydrogen bonds are formed between molecules.
