A method concerning the selective alkylation of phenolic group in berbamine by means of dialkyl oxalate was reported. We succeeded in preparing methyl, ethyl and iso-propyl ethers of berbamine without N-alkylation by treating sodium berbaminate with the corresponding dialkyl oxalates.
