Tigogenin,hecogenin,9-dehydrohecogenin,rockogenin,12-epirockogenin,gitogenin,chlorogenin and manogenin were isolated from leaves of Agave americana L.gathered from Kwangtung Province.Although 12-epirockogenin has been reported in the literature as the reduction product of hecogenin,yet it is the first time ever isolated directly from a plant.The NMR spectra of these sapogenins with the exception of gitogenin were also reported and discussed.
