The titled compound (tetraiodobisphenol-A) was synthesized by the action of iodine on 2,2-bis[4-hydroxy-phenyl]propane (bisphenol-A) in aqueous ammonium hydroxide solution at room temperature.The tetraiodobisphenol-A is a colourless crystalline substance, melting at 271-272° (decompn.).It reacts with epichlorohydrin to give a deep-brown resin.
