It was found that molybdenum in molybdenum-thiocyanate complexes is pentavalent. In aqueous-acetone solutions, when the concentration of hydroch-loric acid lies between 0.9 and 2.5 N only one colored complex is formed,which imparts a cherry red color to the solution.
