In an attempt to esterify the △^7,9 lithocholadienic acid (Ia) by treatment with methanolic hydrogen chloride, a compound having probably the structure Ⅳ is formed. The compound after absorption of one mole of hydrogen is transformed into a dihydro derivative having the structure Ⅵ, Ⅶ or Ⅷ.Their structures are discussed, and experiments are under way to prove them by synthesis from apocholic acid.
