Synthesis of Pt Nano-particles Modified with Cation Ions and Its Self-assembly on Nafion Membrane

Pt Nano-particles modified with quaternary ammonium cation were synthesized by chemical reduction. Crystalline Pt nano-particles with average diameter of ~4.5 nm, mono-dispersed in the solution, were obtained in the study. The Zeta potential of the Pt particles under different pH values were determined, and then the Pt solution with pH value of 11 8 was selected to assemble. As a result, Pt particles were successfully self-assembled on Nafion membrane surface. Furthermore, a reasonable mathematic model was put forward to ascertain the influence factors and the calculated results were used to explain the experiment results. The Pt particles coated Nafion membrane, which was fabricated without any mechanical operations and had specific strctures, will reasonably have potential application in micro PEMFC (proton exchange membrane fuel cell).
