A Facile synthesis of 2-substituted cyclopentenone and their derivatives

Reaction of 2-chlorocyclopentanone with RMgBr (R = Et, pentyl, Ph) gave 61-75% cyclopentanone I, bromination and dehydrobromination of which gave cyclopentenones II. II (R = pentyl, Ph) were converted to cyclopentanones III in 2 steps.
