Diazadithiacrown ethers containing two fluorescent side-arms were synthesized, which were used as fluorescent indecator for the following toxic ions in waste water. These crown ethers are 18-crown-6 derivatives with two coumarinyl and naphthalidinyl side-arms, including 3Ac, 3Ad, 3Ae, 3Af, 3Bc, 3Bd, 3Be, 3Bf, 4Bc, 4Be and 4Bf. The shifts, the λ_(max) and the mole absorption coefficient ε of these complexes with Cu~(2+), Pb~(2+), Cd~(2+), Hg~(2+), Cr~(3+), Ni~ (2+), Mg~(2+) and Zn~(2+) ions were measured by UV spectrometry. Some of these ligands can form complexes selectively with Pb~(2+), Hg~(2+) and Cr~(3+).
