Asymmetric Synthesis of 2,4-Dihydroxymethylpyrrolidine Derivatives and Their Inducing Ability for Epoxidation of Olefins

Chiral 2,4-pyrrolindinediester derivatives were synthesized by asymmetric 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition of imines and menthyl acrylate in the presence of metal ion. Ten new ehiral 2,4- dihydroxymethylpyrrolidine derivatives were prepared by reduction of the 2,4-pyrrolindinediester derivatives with LiAlH_4. The 2,4- dihydroxymethyl-pyrrolidine derivatives were first found to be excellent inducer for epoxidation of olefins with oxone.
