Synthesis of a Novel Ethereal Tetrasilane Core for Dendrimer Construction

A novel ethereal tetrasilane based on pentaerythritol was synthesized. Etherification of pentaerythritol (1) with allyl bromide giving tetraallyl ether 2, followed by Pt-catdlyzed hydrosilication with silicochloroform generated tetratrichlorosilane 3 (which could directly react with some functional groups to form dendrimers) and subsequent reduction of 3 with LiAlH4 provided tetrasilane 4, which could be used in hydrosilication with unsaturated olifens and their derivatives to form carbosilane dendrimers.
