Synthesis and optical properties of zinc complexes with 2-(2-α-thienylvinyl)-8-hydroxyquinolines

2-[2-(5-Bromo-thiophen-2-yl)-vinyl]-8-hydroxyquinoline (1) and 2-[2-(5'-bromo-bithiophenyl- 5-yl)-vinyl]-8- hydroxyquinoline (2) were synthesized and characterized by IR, UV, 1H NMR, MS spectra and elemental analysis. The crystal structure of compound 1 was determined by X-ray single crystal diffraction. Their effects on the proliferation of the rat marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (rMSC) have been evaluated by an MTT assay. The result of experiment indicated that compounds 1 and 2 could induce the proliferation of mesenchy-mal stem cells (MSC). The compounds 1 and 2 reacted with a Zn(II) salt to afford the cor-responding Zn(II) complexes 3 and 4, and their photoluminescences were showed at λmax 597 and 620 nm respectively.
