Studies on the Reaction of α-Ferrocenylalkyl Carbocations with Potassium Thioacetate

Eight different ferrocenylmethanol derivatives were treated with BF3•Et2O in CH2Cl2 to generate the corresponding carbocations. The carbocations consequently reacted with potassium thioacetate without isolation to afford α-ferrocenylthioacetate. All the final products were characterized by elemental analysis, IR, and 1H NMR spectra.
