A relatively new kind of aza-BODIPY fluorescent compound has been developed and aroused wide attention in the last decade. They are potentially useful photosensitizer for photodynamic therapy. In this work, five aza-BODIPY fluorescent dyes 1a~1e have been synthesized. All the compounds have been identified by IR, NMR, MS techniques and elemental analysis. Their spectra of UV absorption and fluorescence emission have been also measured. A conclusion can be drawn that aza-BODIPY fluorescent dyes 1a~1e have high molar extinction coefficient, their maximum UV absorption wavelength and fluorescence emission wavelength would red-shift when the electron-donating group onto the para-position of the aryl rings locating 3,5 or 1,7 positions in the aza-BODIPY core. At the same time, cyclic voltammograms of 1a~1d had been scanned, and their structural stability was discussed by oxidation potential of CV.
Key words: aza-BODIPY, fluorescent dye, UV absorption spectra, fluorescence emission spectra, cyclic voltammogram
