A series of 3, 3, 6, 6-tetramethyl-l, 8-dioxo-9-aryl-10-(4- methylphenyl)-l,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9, 10-decaliydroacridines (4) have been synthesized from aromatic aldehydes, 5,5-dimethyl-l, 3- cyclohexanedione (dimedone) and p-toluidine in ethyleneglycol under microwave irradiation. The structure of the product 4b was confirmed by X-ray analysis.
