Four chiral quaternary ammonium salts were designed and synthesized from naturally occurring L-proline and L-hydroxyproline. These compounds were employed as phase-transfer catalysts in asymmetric epoxidation reactions of chalcone affording the corresponding epoxide in high yeilds and up to 9% ee.
