An essential oil was obtained in 0.02~0.03% yield by extration of the dry root-powder of R. aesculifolia with ether. By gas chromatog. and mass spectral anal., 23 chem. constituents were identified. Successive extration of the oil with 5% NaHCO3 and 5% NaOH solution gave neutral, NaHCO3-sol. and NaOH-sol. fractions. Three compounds were isolated from the neutral part and 4 from the NaOH-sol. part. Their structure were confirmed by IR, UV, mass spectra and 1H NMR spectra. Nine compounds were isolated from the NaHCO3-sol. part and identified by gas chromatog. anal.
