Synthesis of 3-(1-butenone-3) indole derivatives

The title compound (I, R = R1 = H, R2 = Ac), an intermediate in the synthesis of the antifertility alkaloid yuehchukene, was converted to I (R = H, tosyl; R1 = H, Br; R2 = Ac, CHMeOH, CHMeOAc, COCH2Br, CMe:NOH) none of which had any antifertility activity.
