Three monoterpene glucosides were isolated from the methanol extract of thyme (Thymus vul-garis L.). They were identified as p-cymen-9-yl-β-D-glucopyranoside (1), 5-β-D-glucopyranosylthymoquinol (2) and 2-β-D-glucopyranosylthymoquinol (3) by spectral evidence. 1 is a new compound, but 2 and 3 are known compounds. The stereochemistry at C-8 of 1 was elucidated to be R-form by enantioselective synthesis from p-cymen-9-ol.
Key words: thyme, monoterpene glucoside, p-cymen-9-yl-β-D-glucopyranoside
