Progress in the Photochromic Mechanism of Spirooxazine

The study on photochemistry and photophysics of spirooxazines in the photochromic reactions has been the focus since the middle of 1980s. The photochromic mechanism of spirooxazines, which was studied in different medium the past 20 years, such as solution, crystal or solid, was reviewed. The new experimental methods, technologies and theory applied to study the photochromic process of spirooxazines were mainly introduced, and the substitution effects on the photochromic properties were analyzed. The typical examples were used to explain the important steering meaning on the study of design, synthesis and applications.
