Three substituted 6-benzimidazolyl-2-aryliminoethyl pyridine derivatives 3a~3c and the corresponding zinc complexes 6-benzimidazolyl-2-aryliminoethyl pyridine zinc dichlorides 4a~4c were synthesized. The products were evidenced by NMR, IR, elemental analysis and molecular structures of complex 4a has been characterized by X-ray diffraction. The unit cell parameters was a=9.2524(17) Å, b=16.958(3) Å, c=16.661(3) Å, β=103.089(3)°, monoclinic, P2(1)/n space group. The zinc complexes exhibited moderate catalytic activities for styrene polymerization. Influencing factors for catalytic activities were investigated and the highest activities reached 1.33×105 g·mol-1(Zn)·h-1. Characterized with GPC, NMR, IR and XRD, the obtained polystyrene was in atactic microstructure, moderate molecular weight (Mn, 1×104~2×104) and narrow molecular weight distrbution (Mw/Mn<1.8).
